The Eravikulam National Park is situated near Munnar, in Idukki district of Kerala. A 45 minute drive from Munnar town, the Eravikulam national Park is home to a varied and diverse flora and fauna. It is also recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Popularly referred to as the Rajamalai Wildlife Sanctuary, in the past this region was managed as a game reserve by the Kanan Devan Hills Produce Company prior to 1971. It is home to elephants, the Nilgiri langur, the Nilgiri marten, the Atlas Moth whci happens to be the largest moth in the world, the lion-tailed macaque and the small-clawed otter which are some of the unique species of animals found here. The best time to visit is during the period of September to November and from April to June. The nearest railway station is in Kottayam (142 km) and Ernakulam which is at a distance of 130 km. The nearest airport is situated in Madurai, Tamil Nadu (142 kms) and the Cochin International Airport which is 150 km away.
