The township of Idukki is near the Idukki district headquarters in Painavu, in the state of Kerala. A township is a group of small towns namely, Cheruthony, Painavu (district capital), Thadiyampadu, Idukki proper, and Vazhathope. The town of Idukki town is an administrative town but the district headquarters is located at Painavu. The town is close to a few popular tourist attractions like the Idukki Dam which is Asia’s largest arch dam. The river Periyar flows through the town.
