Kozhikode Beach holds a special place in history after the beach road adjoining the beach was renamed after Gandhi Road after Mahatma Gandhi visited the beach in 1934. Situated on the Malabar coast, the beach is unique because it has a 28 km long drivable road that stretches from Beypore beach in the South to Kappad beach in the North. Along the 28 km beach road, the prominent beaches include Payyanakkal, and Marad; Kallayi, Kuttichira, and Thekkeppuram; Vellayil, South Beach, and Valiyangadi; Kamburam, Putiyappa, and Elathur. It attracts a lot of tourists who visit the place just to view the beautiful orange sunset in the evenings. One can also indulge in some shopping at the local market nearby.
There is a Lion's Park and an aquarium, which serve as other attractions and offer avenues for fun for the children. There are two piers that stretch into the middle of the sea and they date back to a century ago.
