One of the famed 108 ‘divya desamas’, the Padmanabhaswamy Temple is located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. The temple is designed with a gold-plated covering, and it is open only to followers of the Hindu religion. The temple is dedicated to Lord Padmanabha; who is considered to be one of the avatars of Lord Vishnu. The temple is one of the main centers of Vaishnava worship in the dharma of Vaishnavism.The origin of the temple according to devotees is that it has been in existence since the first day of the Kali Yuga, which according to Hindu beliefs started about 5000 years ago .There is mention of the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in the Bhagwad Gita which states that Lord Krishna’s elder brother, Balarama visited the temple often and bathed in the Padmatheertham while making several offerings to the deity here.
