With its moniker of the ’cultural capital of India’, Thrissur is a major hub that has fostered classical performing arts, and musical forms. It is also home to some of the most prominent religious sites like the Vadakkumnathan Temple. The city also plays host to one of the biggest cultural extravaganzas every year called the Thrissur Pooram. The word Thrissur is a combination of three different words, Thiru, Shiva and Per Ur which when combined translates to “a city with three temples of Lord Shiva”. The name Thrissur was later renamed with its anglicized form to Trichur.
Thrissur is from where Kerala gets a fair share of its festive glitter. Thrissur was the capital of the Kingdom of Kochi.
